In this video, I demonstrate using the new felt belts from Curry Custom Cutlery on the Work Sharp Ken Onion mk.2. This is used as a stropping step, and I’d previously established and refined the edge on this knife.
hello everyone Nate here with SimplySharp and today I want to demonstrate the yellow felt belt that uh got from Curry custom Cutlery I believe he’s going to start selling these but he sent me one of these to kind of try out on the various kind onions that I have the old version and the new version uh it’s been working great so I thought I would go ahead and share that with you we’re going to go ahead and sharpen up one of my dad’s knives he makes me dinner every Sunday and lunch every Wednesday so I feel like I owe him all right we’ve got the belt on um it goes on pretty easily even with this little metal adapter here on the newest version of the Ken Onion uh works even uh smoother on the older version um but uh it does take just a little bit of time to break in it is fairly stiff when you first get it um I’ve probably sharpened 3 or 400 knives on it so far um it’s holding up great it’s really seems to be um pretty well worn in by now uh doing a great job but let’s check it out uh I do use this at a higher speed and I’ve been using the blue compound all right so we are all done I do like to use a microfiber cloth to um to do a little test so I’m just running it lightly across the cloth and I’m just feeling for anything catching um it’s nice and buttery smooth and let’s see how we done here so that’s cutting really well um I will say that leather does leave a what appears to be a better polish it is like ever so noticeably smoother uh I think for your everyday home kitchen knives this is going to work fantastic uh it’s a good bit quicker than uh finishing with just leather um you could add an extra step and go uh uh hit it with a leather strap after this which maybe I’ll incorporate into it but just using this yellow felt um has been working great especially in cold weather uh and especially with the blue compound so I have been noticing here in the winter this blue compound really uh uh takes a while to work on a leather belt when it’s cold outside uh on the felt it seems to do its job pretty pretty uh quickly and has been great so there you go hopefully these go on sale soon and you can get them from Cliff at Curry custom cery thanks everyone
