About this video

Not quite my full technique for serrated knives, but close, and it does nice work on these monstrosities.

all right so I am going to go through a little bit of what I do with like a serrated bread knife um now this Edge is actually pretty decent but uh we can make it a little bit better and I think it’s a good um example to kind of show the technique I’ve been using so let me get this little set up here so what I’ve got is a an old um I’d say like medium grip belt this is probably about six 800 grit belt it’s it’s pretty old and worn and what we’re going to do is you know a lot of you know you just need to push the points back over on the back side so it’s just a little thing like that but this does not need that there are some Burrs on the inside and that’s what we’re going to work on as well as maybe just kind of touching things up a bit what we’re going to do is we’re going to use the edge of the belt here so let me get this going and kind of show you how I do it so it’s very gently kind of going in each duration and I’m being cautious not to kind of come over the uh the point because I wanna make sure that’s still there now you needed to maybe do a little bit of re-serating there’s a slightly different technique but what you do is use a coarser belt and in that case what you’re doing is you’re kind of more coming in than just kind of pressing into the belt a little bit and that obviously makes a nice little angle that’ll put your uh your points back on there so it looks a little bit like that um but uh otherwise what we’re doing here is we’re just trying to get those edges pushed back over or get get that Burrs pushed back over and we’re gonna kind of re-apexing this a little bit here okay now we gotta do the other side we’ll do it the other way from the other Direction I guess I should say okay and now I can basically feel a burr all around the back Edge so we’re just gonna have a very all right so that’s pretty good now what we’re gonna do is uh we’re gonna move to an old this is an old Work Sharp fine so I think there’s like 2500 grit or something like that this thing is old and worn but what we’re gonna do now this is almost like kind of bumping it I don’t know but uh we’re gonna discuss here and then we’re just gonna do this like I’m about a 45 degrees this way and about 45 degrees this way um got this from um uh Cliff Curry’s YouTube channel if I do that do that and really I’m just trying to polish that up a bit and if there is a burr in there we’re knocking it off all right a little bit on there still all right now the last thing I’m actually a little torn between using a leather strop or again an old Workshop belt this is like their old ultra fine which is some insane grit like ten thousand or twelve thousand or something crazy um but it’s super flexible and so I just kind of run things down in there I’ll try not to get run over by delivery trucks how are you never even see it but you can pretty much see the belt is kind of bending in to conform all right foreign was in pretty good shape to begin with but now it’s quite a bit sharper the only real stuff we really had to do there is get out it’s kind of some some Burrs that kind of folded in inside of the serration those are all gone polished up a little bit kind of re-apexed all of this in there should be a nice good solid cutting knife
